Welcome to Set the Captives Free Outreach Center a church family with outreach at its core. God has called us to “set the captives free” according to Isaiah 61:1-3. We believe that “ye shall know that truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32). It is our objective to feed people with truths from the Word of God in every area of life, spirit, soul, and body, producing liberty, restoration, and wholeness! The P.A.T.H is our systematic process of maturing people in the Word of God and making disciples of new believers. The PATH stands for Pointing All Towards Heaven. We want you to have the abundant life that Jesus promised in life and then enjoy eternal life with the Father once you leave this earth. Bridgeway began as a dream in the mind of David Anderson, when he was still a teenager. Through his studies at Moody Bible Institute and his experiences at Willow Creek Community Church, that dream became a calling. Assembling a team of young visionaries, David and his co-laborers embarked on a journey to start a multi-cultural church. A church unlike any they had ever experienced. One of family and community. Creativity and imagination. Truth and integrity. A celebration of all colors and cultures doing life together and worshipping God-together! On Easter morning, 1992, the adventure began. Stepping out in faith, David and his team began building a church. Through meeting in peoples’ homes, singing without instruments, and sharing the Gospel with co-workers, the vision of Bridgeway started to spread. God was moving in this little church and lives were being changed. Today over 3000 people call Bridgeway Community Church their home. Bridgeway offers 3 Sunday services, as well as an extensive list of ministries that reach in to the body of Christ and out to the community. The cultural and racial blend has raised interest from leaders around the world as Bridgeway successfully fulfills our vision: “To become a multicultural body […]

The Good Shepherd Church seeks to minister to the whole man. In addition to the many fellowships and teaching ministries in the church, the church has a wide range of outreach ministries. It partners with the local school to help poor and struggling families, it has a ministry to incarcerated men and women, it has a monthly outreach dinner for families in the community, it has a ministry to the sick and shut-in, it has a food pantry that feeds hungry families, it has a ministry to college students and military personnel and since the church’s inception it has had a nursing home ministry. Our ministry philosophy grows out of the Great Commission in which the Lord Jesus commands us to reach out to the lost and hurting and to teach those who have accepted him. The church seeks to be child-friendly, understanding that the childhood experience of person in church impacts his or her ability to seek Jesus as an adult. The church seeks to be nurturing. It is no accident that the name of the church is The Good Shepherd Church as it seeks to emulate the character of Christ that nurturing and pastoral. The church seeks to […]

The Community of Hope A.M.E. Church is conceived from the vision of Rev. Tony Lee and born by permission of the A.M.E. Church. The name of the church reflects its soul. Community is that identifiable place where we live and raise our families. Hope is a key ingredient necessary for faith and survival. Our prayer is to effectively impact the community and instill hope into every beating heart and searching soul within our reach. Where there is hope, there is life. Evangelism comes as naturally as breathing to Rev. Lee, and his pulse is on the Community of Hope Church family. Through Christ, we are challenged to spread hope and life into all corners of the world. The Bible instructs us to go out of our comfort zones to find souls for the Kingdom. “…Go out into the highways and hedges and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled” (Luke 14:23). In a nutshell, ‘that’s what we are about.’ We’re about the business of meeting souls wherever they may be found to share the message of hope, life and empowerment through Jesus Christ if they will only believe. We are excited about soul winning. Hope’s Street […]

The Motto “God Our Father, Christ Our Redeemer, the Holy Spirit our Comforter, Humankind our Family” is a great summary of what the African Methodist Episcopal Church believes. Also known as the A.M.E. Church for short, the denomination is Methodist in terms of its basic doctrine and order of worship. It was born, through adversity, of the Methodist church and to this day does not differ in any major way from what all Methodists believe. The split from the main branch of the Methodist Church was not a result of doctrinal differences but rather the result of a time period that was marked by man’s intolerance of his fellow man, based on the color of his skin. It was a time of slavery, oppression, and the dehumanization of people of African descent and many of these un-Christian practices were brought into the church, forcing Richard Allen and a group of fellow worshippers of color to form a splinter denomination of the Methodist Church.

A Statement in the Aftermath of More Shootings in America (July 2016) “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free….” Gal. 5:1 I lift prayers and offer condolences to the families of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, and the officers who were shot and killed in Dallas. We are living in the midst of a terrible crisis in this country, and these most recent killings bear witness to the fact that it is time for a change. How many lives must to be lost, and how long are we to endure brutal killing after killing? When will the shootings end, the fear resolve, and the utter disregard of black lives come to an end? Where are we safe? When will we be free? This land is considered “the land of the free and the home of the brave.” But so many of us live in fear and bondage, unable to move-about and fully exercise our rights as citizens of this country. One of the biblical writers reminds us, “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be consumed again by a yoke of bondage and despair” (Gal. 5:1). […]

“Our Very Souls Cry Out” Dean Alton B. Pollard, III Howard University School of Divinity I woke up this morning along with the rest of world to the breaking news now become our daily news, of shootings, killings, murders, assassinations, victimization and martyrdom. My phone was filled with messages from loved ones to be safe, with strident calls for action, and anguishing cries of pain, rage and grief. We are in a dire moment as a people, a nation and a species. Incivility seethes, hostility grows, distrust mounts, hatred becomes our lot, violence besieges our world, freedoms are under assault, fear is our constant companion, and death the grim reaper comes. Death and the specter of death is everywhere. It is open season on much of humankind. People of African descent are first among equals in this present moment, in this deadly killing scenario. Black lives matter – Black children, young women and young men, middle-aged and elders, all! Still, there is no pride of place or hierarchy of privilege to be claimed here. Countless people are brutalized and worse everyday by our seeming national pastime, our societal proclivity, our relentless pursuit of racism, hatred, division, bigotry and death: […]
